Sept Home School Report

Physics concepts are NOT my favorite thing, but the labs are kind of fun.

She doesn't love the math program, but I really appreciate the self graded part of it!

Since we spend so much time in the car, we do a lot of listening to Story of The World.  We will finish Volume 1 very soon.
And PE consists of hikes in the county parks.  This is one of my favorite things of what we are doing this year.

I also took her with me to IKEA and made her do work on the drive.  She didn't love that....but I did.

My idea for assesment for Volume 1 of Story of the World, didn't go so well.  I'm going to have to figure out a new strategy for that one.

Warm Indian Summer

My favorite thing about September is that we always get an indian summer.  The heat just stays on, giving us extra time to be outside.
Its Saturday night, 72 degrees at 8:30 pm, and the hammock is so incredibly comfortable.  (Sigh)

And then there's this guy....
These lingering summer eves also provided us an opportunity to have a "crappy dinner party".  It was the best "crappy dinner party" I've ever been to, with unroasted marshmellows, stale grahms, and frozen reese's.  Good stuff for a spur of the moment dinner with friends.

Treks

The old dog freaked me out today.  Found him laying under the trampoline in a pile of leaves like this today.  He didn't move when I called him.  (He's deaf...but whatever.)  Turns out he's not dead like I originally thought....

Sunshine..

Just catching some rays before school starts.
No biggie.

Church

Beautiful sunrise this morning, blue skies, good coffee and the anticipation of time spent with fellow believers worshipping my Lord. This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.  Psalms 118:24

Another perk: Cannon loves handing out the bulletin and greeting people.

Restless

I always get a little bit restless in the fall. I want to travel and see things and be on the move.  I couldn't handle it anymore so the kids and I took a *little* drive that landed us about 2 hours north at Sea Glass Beach.  The weather was cooler up there then I expected, but the drive through the redwoods was gorgeous and so extremely worth it.
I'm thankful the kids could handle the time driving and that they have a sense of adventure too. It didn't hurt that I let them all play hooky from school that day....

Finished up the day watching the Muppet Movie and having a glass of wine.
Best. Day. Ever.

Gross Carpets

I made an appointment to get our carpets cleaned. Moved all the furniture out of the living room and tried not to gag at the state of the carpet.  So gross and dirty.
The kids had fun playing "dirty carpet is lava" game while we waited for the guy to come and clean it.
I *think* its about time for new carpets....

Annual Neighborhood BBQ

Love that we do this every year!

No Bats or Balls Needed

One of the many highlights in may day today was watching the kids play a very intense game of invisible baseball that included a complete stranger calling "strikes" and "outs".  I was impressed with his umpire skills....

Ballet: Year 2

Maeve started her second year of ballet.  I'm not sure how long she will want to do this for, but in the mean time, I'm enjoying watching her enjoy it.  While she dances, the boys and I sit in the car and hang out.  Somedays its hard to sit and wait, and other days its not.

Home School Life Skills

Life Skills: making pumpkin cake.  I had to teach her how to use the can opener first...but we all get a yummy dessert to eat tonight! Win Win!

Fixing Stuff....the "manly" way

Today seems like a GREAT day to tear off and replace the siding of the fireplace right?  And by "tear off" I mean get *inside* the fireplace and kick at it until it falls off.

The kids loved this chance to be up on the roof and see the neighborhood from a new perspective.
